The Husband Auditions is certainly a throw back to when times where purer, and media outlets were not as prevalent in our society. Meri Newberg is a 31 year old woman, the last of her friend group to get married. She doesn’t even have any prospects, so when she was given a 1950s magazine article on how to get a husband, she sees it almost as a social experiment. …

Jesus is Bigger than Me is a children’s book, telling about different miracles that were performed by Jesus, but at a children’s level. Miracles included in this book were turning water into wine, calming the storm and bringing Lazarus back to life (among a few others). All are told at an age appropriate level for children to understand and enjoy, in just a few pages for each miracle. Also included are the verse numbers from the Bible, so if you wanted to look into any further, you could easily find them.

I really enjoyed this book, and found it to…

I was excited to read this book, as I liked the concept of the book on the offset. I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy of this book, and I was so excited to read it. I loved the concept of the book, and it really turned out to be something that I enjoyed reading.

A synopsis: Maria is a 39 year old woman, pregnant (surprise!!) with her third child. She’s in a (mostly) happy marriage, and is (typically) happy with her life. She’s a psychiatrist, and her husband is a doctor, so both are really busy, but…

I was SO excited to get and review The Madiens, by Alex Michaelides. This is his sophomore effort, after a smashing hit of The Silent Patient. I absolutely LOVED The Silent Patient, so was really excited to secure an advanced copy of The Maidens. When it arrived, I admired the cover, a mix of Greek mythology and just darkness. The perfect cover for a broody book.

Mariana, a group therapist, gets a frantic call from her niece, Zoe. Zoe’s friend has been murdered at her Cambridge college, and she wants moral support from Mariana while she copes with the loss…

Little Gordon Grape, by Arnold Dixon

Little Gordon Grape tells the story of Gordon, a grape that is really excited to be picked during the harvest. On the day of the harvest, Gordon is the most excited, and while he is shaking with excitement, he falls off the vine, away from his family. He calls out to the pickers and his family, but no one hears him. He ends up on the ground, all alone and very upset. He cries himself to sleep, and has a dream about the way that God intends to use him. …

I just could not get into this book. I’ve tried several times in the last few months to read this, and it remains unread on my shelf. I wanted to love it, as family dramas are something that I am a sucker for. I’m not sure if it was the writing style or just the overall content, but I could not get past the first few chapters of this book before setting it down for another one, I try not to read books that I’m not enjoying, so here we are. I did not want to DNF this book, but…

Judas Horse is the second installment of the Jack Warr series. it tells the story of detective Jack Warr, and his investigation into a string of home robberies. He previously caught another robber, so when these new thieves become violent, Jack is out on loan from London to help solve the case. Jack also has become a new father, which humanizes him a lot, setting him apart from the typical British investigator. This book is typical British crime procedural, and this is one of the best authors for this type of book. …

Dusk’s Darkest Shores, by Carolyn Miller, is a departure from what I have typically been reading. As a younger adolescent, I read a lot of Christin fiction, but have not read one for many years. I saw the opportunity to read this book, and wanted to see what I had been missing over the years.

This story tells the life of Mary, an “old maid” at the age of 29 years old. (This is 1800s England, so clearly things have changed a little on what constitutes an old maid!) She works with her father, the town’s doctor, administering medications and…

The Nine tells the true story of nine heroic women, banded together toward the end of World War II. This is a non-fiction book, telling the true stories of these nine women’s bravery. They were all at the Ravensbruck concentration camp, and lived through the horrors there. At the end of the war, the Nazis took the camp survivors that could walk, and led them on a brutal march further into the German territory. The intention was with the Allies coming, they were going to move these prisoners to other camps further away from the front lines and the Allies…
